Harnessing Sparks

30 Apr 20255m read

While the resources known as “Sparks” are not pure enough to propagate a full construction, they are vital to an ECHO material’s build process. Artifractal Core refinement and expression is a complex and hazardous process that is highly automated. After choosing the type of equipment that will be constructed, the operator has limited control over the exact way that the core tech will be expressed. Fortunately, there is always a certain amount of constructive capacity left in the resultant material. In this potentially available space the item can be further fitted with more customized properties, and this is precisely where Spark augmentation completes the creation.

Along with Artifractal Cores, Nexite, and battlepass XP, Sparks are one of the end-of-mission rewards available to choose to push your build even further in Warped Universe.

Sparks are the upgrade resource that allows players to enhance and specialize their equipment beyond its base capabilities.

Each piece of equipment in Warped Universe comes with a modifier called Potential, a measure of how much specialization the item can handle. Each Spark costs a certain amount of Potential to socket. Higher-tier Sparks provide stronger effects but require more Potential to equip.

Once an item’s Potential is fully spent, no further Sparks can be added.

Sparks come in different types, each offering a specific kind of bonus when placed into a piece of equipment. Some Sparks increase weapon damage or critical chance, while others boost resistances, skill power, or mobility. The combination of Sparks you choose will greatly influence how your loadout performs in both action and turn-based gameplay.

There are currently ten types of Spark, with some providing different bonus modifiers depending on whether it is placed on a weapon or piece of armor.

  • Light - Adds Light damage dice on weapon, or Light resistance on armor
  • Gravity - Adds Gravity damage dice on weapon, or Gravity resistance on armor
  • Armor Piercing - Adds Armor Piercing damage dice on weapon, or Armor Piercing resistance on armor
  • Kinetic - Adds Kinetic damage dice on weapon, or Kinetic resistance on armor
  • Void - Adds Void damage dice on weapon, or Void resistance on armor
  • Power - Adds a bonus Power modifier
  • Precision - Adds a bonus Precision modifier
  • Psionics - Adds a bonus Psionics modifier
  • Hit Points - Adds a bonus Health modifier
  • Speed - Improves Attack Speed on weapon, or Movement Speed on armor.

Each Rarity of Spark rolls a different dice value that consumes Potential, D4 all the way up to D20, with each rarity granting a larger bonus modifier at the risk of expends more of the item’s Potential.

For example: A Common Gravity Spark will add D4 Gravity damage to a weapon but may use up 1-4 available Potential on that item, while an Epic Gravity Spark will add D12 Gravity damage to a weapon but may use up 1-12 available Potential on that item.

Note: If your item does not have the maximum possible number of Potential a Spark can use, you risk failing to upgrade and destroying the Spark.

For example: An item only has 2 Potential remaining, if you attempt to apply a Common Spark you have a 50% chance to succeed when rolling a 1 or 2, and an equal chance to fail if rolling a 3 or 4.

Choosing how to spend Potential is a big part of defining your loadout.

  • Will you invest heavily in offense for raw damage output?
  • Split your Potential between resistances and mobility?
  • Or design highly specialized builds for specific missions, playstyles, or team roles?

Sparks add another layer of customization and choice to Warped Universe, letting you sharpen your strengths, cover your weaknesses, and improve your favorite gear while also giving you the thrill of hoping for those god rolls for stacked gear.

Adapt. Optimize. Unleash your Potential.
