The Constant Conflict

16 Apr 20255m read

The endless challenges of propagating a secure population include the construction and maintenance of strange, technically wondrous feats of engineering while beset by a ceaseless tide of invasion. After a time, one yearns for the drudgery of monotonous tasks when the spectre of destruction lurks around every corner. But just as we strive for balance in the universal forces, we must also balance our efforts between the impressive and the inane. The perils are seemingly insurmountable, but the rewards defy imagination. We do what we do not only for the bounty of victory, but also because it is the right thing to do.

Orin

At its core, Warped Universe is a battle for creation and survival faced with the constant threat of annihilation. The remnants of a shattered civilization drift over silent distances, caught between the fluctuating forces of Light and Gravity. Players travel to the ruins of this universe, re-shaping its fate through strategic exploration, planetary construction, and high intensity battles.

Missions run the full gamut between complex infiltrations of construction areas on the untamed frontier to simple data collection goals in sparsely infested farmlands. Regardless of the setting and threat, each excursion into the young system’s environments brings a variety of challenges and strategies. Players can always choose a threat level and pace that appeals to their gaming senses.

Our conflict extends beyond simple good versus evil. It’s a struggle of balance, where every action shifts the cosmic scales. Whether you embrace the speed and precision of Light or the raw control and power of Gravity, your choices will influence the battlefield and the universe itself.

Shifting Balance

In Warped Universe the choices players make, and the missions they take have an ever changing effect on the state of the seasons system and gameplay.

The star in the center of the map will show the current balance of Gravity and Light, the effects of which include changing movement speed, jump distance, how skills function, damage, resistances, and more. In the most extreme cases of imbalance, Void enemies will even receive a hefty damage buff. It’ll be up to players to decide whether they want to keep the balance or push it to one side or the other. You may want high gravity to take advantage of a certain loadout and skills, while others may prefer light or to pull things back to the center.

The way in which players direct the balance will come in the form of completing missions assigned to either the Luminaries or Foundationalists. Farms, Housing, and Factory missions push balance towards gravity, while Power, Research, and Space Port missions lean towards the Light.

These of course aren't the only mission types you’ll find on the System Map. There are also Explore missions, which are needed to open up the map to find new potential resources. In Pylon missions, players build and defend a network of pylons responsible for creating a safe zone required to begin mining resources or to build a new planet. Residuum missions are escort missions retrieving and transporting Residuum back to Nexus Station. Finally there are the Void Tear missions. Void Tears are a constant threat in the Warped Universe. If a Void Tear isn't closed in time, it can destroy a facility and set back all of the progress made by players.

It will be up to you and the other inhabitants of Warped Universe to decide how much gets explored, which facilities are built, and what is saved.

The Choice is Yours.
