Unfolding Artifractals

24 Apr 20255m read

There was a time when we thought the entire warped universe was nothing but stray pockets of particle concentration and massive, scattered fields of inert residuum. As our earliest researchers collected and refined residuum into a usable form they encountered rare deposits of more complex amalgamations of matter. These pieces of crystalized power actually caused a great deal of damage to the processing equipment upon their discovery. The internal reflective surfaces are of a varied complexity with an expected increase in energetic potency. We dubbed them Artifractal Cores. Bring me one of those and watch the tech do the rest.

Along with Sparks, Nexite, and battlepass XP, Artifractal Cores are one of the end of mission rewards available to choose to progress along your journey in Warped Universe.

Artifractal Cores, or Cores as they are obviously going to be referred to, are the resource allowing players to acquire new equipment.

Artifractal Cores, or simply "Cores”, are the basic element required for all weapon and gear crafting in Warped Universe. Since all specialization and stat boosting will be carried out by gear rather than a standard character level-up mechanic, Cores are the foundation and framework of any player loadout. From tanky brawler sets to fast and accurate pieces, (or any combinations in between) the gear built at an Artifractal Core table will provide the player a vast combination of strengths and strategies.

Cores can be obtained in six rarities, common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary and Warped. The power of any given core is easily predicted by the complexity of its shape.

After receiving a Core, the player must take it to the Artifractal Core table in Nexus Station and choose the equipment you want or need at the time.

When you use a Core table, you’ll be faced with a few choices. First you select whether you want equipment for your ground character or your space ship, armor or weapon, then specifically which piece you want to receive for each loadout.

You may want a new ship hull for example, go to the table, select ship, then hull, choose your core rarity and hope for the best.

Each piece of equipment comes with its own appearance and base modifiers that will remain the same regardless of Core rarity. There will be equipment with modifiers weighted in all directions, ensuring you have the ability to create multiple loadouts for any scenario.

The benefit of a higher Core rarity is the significant number of desirable bonus modifiers on a piece of equipment. These stat types are randomized from the list of upgrades available from Planet Facility unlocks.

Modifiers in Warped Universe currently include:

  • Power - Reducing weapon recoil and increasing critical strike damage.
  • Precision - Increasing accuracy and critical strike chance.
  • Psionics - Used to increase skill usage in the form of cool down reduction, skill range, and AoE size.
  • Health- Increasing base health points.
  • Speed - Increasing movement speed, by percentage in action modes and tiles moved in turn-based.
  • Dodge - Decreases the possibility of being hit.
  • Resists - Reduces damage received. Comes in the form of armor piercing, kinetic, light, gravity, and void.
  • Additional Damage Dice - Increases damage done, and potentially varying the damage types you deal.
  • Potential - The resource players spend to further upgrade their equipment.

Cores also serve a secondary purpose, allowing players to reset upgrade potential on a piece of equipment, but we’ll get into that later.

The Artifractal Core system provides an opportunity for the player to stay connected to their in-game character regardless of how they want to change or accentuate their playstyle. It provides a frictionless and interesting way to min-max their loadout without abandoning any previous progress.
