M.O.A.B. Is Live: Co-op Comes to Warped Universe

Co-op is out!

M.O.A.B., the Mother of All Builds, is live on Steam. You can now play any mission with up to three friends, in every mode. Ground or space, real time or turn based, it all works in co-op.

It's been a while since we posted here, and that's because we've had our heads down on this one. Co-op and a new animation system were the two things you asked for most, and they turned out to go hand in hand. To make co-op hold up over the network, the animation system had to be rebuilt too. So we did both. A lot of coffee was involved.

Warped Universe was always meant to be played together. We launched Early Access solo to get the game into your hands and learn what was working, and your reviews, Discord messages and bug reports shaped a lot of what's in this build. Thank you.

"I jumped out of my chair in excitement the moment we as a team logged in to a mission together and flew side by side. It's been years of waiting for this moment, and it was such an unreal feeling to be able to battle together." - Adam, co-founder / game audio

Playing together

  • Up to four players, in every mode
  • Add friends, see who's online and form a squad before you launch
  • Private lobbies for your friends, or public lobbies you can join from the lobby terminal if you want to play with other Champions
  • Built-in voice chat, push-to-talk or open mic, plus a text chat for every co-op mission
  • Turn-based co-op has an initiative bar, turn banner and countdown so everyone knows whose move it is
  • Residuum is shared, so loot is never a race
  • Enemies get tougher as your squad grows
  • The results screen shows every player's stats

Space co-op has been one of our favorite things to test. Not many space games let you fly missions next to your friends.

Turn-based is a lot faster

Combat doesn't wait for the dice anymore, and enemy turns are paced so you can follow them without sitting through them. Fights open with an initiative roll, with PSI and Speed giving you a bonus, and the turn order shows at the top of the screen. You can peek around corners and fire before stepping out, and the Void now shows up in squads and plans its moves together.

Things that go boom

  • A rocket launcher that fires straight or locks on and chases its target
  • A grenade launcher that bounces around corners or goes off on contact
  • Damage types now do something: Light blinds, Gravity slows, Kinetic staggers, Armor Piercing shreds armor and Void burns
  • Two new skills: Healing Light heals your squad and blinds any Void caught in it, and Residuum Rage trades defense for damage and speed
  • The pistol is now a real sidearm

A smarter Void

The Void takes cover, fires in bursts, works as a squad and goes looking for you where it last saw you. New enemy types join them, including the Necromancer, who brings fallen Void back, and the Nightmare, who blinds you with a cloud of darkness.

And more

Rebuilt movement and animation, ground explore missions, a first look at Void battleships in space, better performance in big fights, faster loading almost everywhere, and a lot of new sound and ambience made by the team.

We've already pushed two patches since launch thanks to your bug reports, and you can find all the details in the changelog.

It's a big update for a small team, so if you run into anything, tell us in Discord. We're in there most nights, and in game too.

Bring your friends, it's free to play. See you in the Nexus.
